Warner Bros. Pictures Hires Brad Peyton to Rewrite and Direct LOBO

It has been two years since we heard anything on the proposed big-screen adaptation of the DC Comics series Lobo. Back then, we brought you word from producer Joel Silver about then circulating rumors that director Guy Ritchie was to helm the ultra-violent antihero’s trip from the pages of DC Comics to the big screen.

While Richie was apparently considering the gig, Warner Bros. Pictures was more interested in having him helm the return of Sherlock Holmes, after the wild success of the first film. So, Richie passed on the project and we have heard virtually nothing about it since.

Now, Deadline reports that Warner Bros. Pictures has hired Brad Petyon (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), to re-write and helm the film version of “He-Who-Devours-Your-Entrails-And-Thoroughly-Enjoys-It”. The project is still being produced by Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman.

Lobo was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, and debuted in issue #3 of Omega Men back in 1983. The character was originally an interstellar alien mercenary and bounty hunter, and made a comeback in the 90s as an anti-hero biker.

Lobo is set to make his New 52 debut next month in Deathstroke #9, written by Rob Liefeld.

No production or release dates have been announced for Lobo.
