The 3D re-release of Star Wars: Epidode I – The Phantom Menace managed to rack up $1.1 million in midnight showings this past Friday. To mark the event, George Lucas spoke with the fine folks over at THR and decided to troll Star Wars fans by addressing just how wrong we all are.

Lucas said,

“It’s not a religious event. I hate to tell people that. It’s a movie, just a movie.”

“The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn’t,” he said. “It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.”

It’s moments like these where I realize that Lucas has very little respect for original fans of the original trilogy and is much more concerned with the newer generation of fans… which is depressing, ya know, since his Empire wouldn’t exist without us here to pass the fandom down to the next generation. Besides, we all know Han shot first in the original theatrical release, because Greedo doesn’t even get a chance to fire his blaster, his shot was added in the special edition.
