20th Century Fox‘s latest foray into the world of mutants with X-Men: First Class, which recently hit Blu-ray and DVD and also managed to score the best fantasy movie award at the 2011 Scream Awards apparently proved popular enough to warrant a sequel (don’t look so surprised).
Now, SHH is reporting that the studio has hired a writer for the sequel, which is expected to see the return of director Matthew Vaughn. In a move that is bound to scare the blue right out of Mystique, the studio has chosen Simon Kinberg to pen the sequel. Who is Kinberg? The writer has penned some good stuff, including Sherlock Holmes, and even though he acted as a producer on the first film, he was also the writer behind X-Men: The Last Stand.
If you’re a fan of X-Men: The Last Stand, you just scored the jackpot, if (like me) you’re not… then you can start praying that Matthew Vaughn does indeed hop back in the director’s chair, because at least then you know that he and writing partner Jane Goldman will virtually re-write the entire thing before cameras start rolling.
