Paramount Pictures has snagged a hotly sought after sci-fi spec script called Hyperdrive, written by Morgan Jurgenson (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil) and David Daniels (aka Alex Ankeles, Vice President of Production at Panay Films.)

THR reports that Hyperdrive “is the story of a tough cop who recruits a geeky sci-fi author to help him track down a mysterious murder witness. While on their search, they find themselves in the middle of a space opera playing out on Earth” and calls the film “a cross between The Fifth Element and 48 Hrs.”

Mary Parent and Cale Boyter of Disruption Entertainment will produce the project. No production or release date has been set for Hyperdrive yet.
