Still Flying – CAN’T STOP THE SERENITY Keeps FIREFLY Alive For Charity


Fans of the Whedonverse and Firefly are keeping the signal alive with charitable events all over the globe. Chapters of the fan-based Can’t Stop the Serenity hold screenings of Joss Whedon’s Serenity to raise money and awareness for Whedon’s favorite charity, Equality Now, an organization that seeks to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world.

This weekend, Can’t Stop the Serenity is holding events in Dallas, Denver, and Philadelphia. Here’s the low down:

On Saturday, August 21st:

  • In Dallas, the North Texas chapter will be holding a screening of Serenity and Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, a raffle for Whedonverse goodies, and a musical showcase, including performances by headliner Inner Frequency and Velvet Kittens of Le Cabaret Burlesque. Click here for details.

On Sunday, August 22nd:

  • Philly fans can get their Firefly fix by attending a screening of Serenity and Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog and can enter the raffle for Whedonverse goodies. Click here for details.

Also big on the Browncoat calendar is the Browncoat Ball held in Charlotte, NC this year on October 22nd to the 24th. The Browncoat Ball is the social event of the season for Browncoats, featuring Firefly-centric workshops and merchandise as well as three different event tracks to choose from including a historic trolley ride, a thrill-seeker tour of the U.S. National Whitewater Center, and a tour showcasing the new NASCAR Hall of Fame Museum.
