Last night marked the last of the David Tennant episodes with the conclusion of “Doctor Who: The End of Time”. As we say goodbye to Tennant’s version of the Doctor, Tennant himself leaves the show with a few mementos himself. Tennant has played the Doctor since 2005 in the show’s most successful run in the UK and worldwide in the show’s 47 year history. On mementos:
“I was presented with a sonic screwdriver in a beautiful box that the prop department made for me. So I got to take that home and that will sit in a very proud place in my home. And I do have The Doctor’s suit now, hanging up in my wardrobe — the brown and the blue. I haven’t tried it on yet, but I’m sure there will come a day when I’ll be dancing around at midnight, frightening the neighbors.”
On coming back on to the show:
“Who knows? There’s no immediate plans. I’d probably have to move away and let the dust settle and let the new team get established and all that. But there is a bit of a tradition of The Doctor meeting his former selves. It happened with me when Peter Davison, who I watched when I was growing up, suddenly came back and did a scene with us, which was a real thrill for me. [It was] very disorienting, to be faced with this guy who you watched as a kid in the gear — and there he was, in my TARDIS now. It was very odd. It’s been a very odd experience really, playing this part all around,” he continued. “There’s been many very unusual moments, very disorienting moments, but it’s been a wonderful time. I wouldn’t have changed it for the world.”

On the subject of spinoff ventures, watch Tennant’s reaction to IDW Publishing’s 2009 series “Doctor Who: The Forgotten,” written by Tony Lee and drawn by Pia Guerra with cover art by Ben Templesmith.
“In Britain, we have ‘Doctor Who Magazine’ and we have ‘Doctor Who Adventures,’ which is for kids and [the magazine] is for a slightly older audience, and they both have comic strips. One of the things I’m going to miss is being in a comic strip every week. It tickles a curious part of one’s vanity, and I’ll miss that. I discovered that in America you have a dedicated comic book series. I had no idea! We don’t hear about this back home! It’s fantastic! But it’s an odd one — it has many tentacles, this show. Like I said, I’m on birthday cakes and childrens’ pants and kites and chocolate bars, and to see yourself in a comic strip is quite odd. It’s quite hard to relate it to yourself. [But] what a treat! I get to be an action figure! It’s bizarre!”
