There’s been a long running rumor that a movie version of Fallout, the massively popular video game would be going into production soon.
Sadly, Hitman director Xavier Gens has a new movie coming up called “The Fallout”, that has nothing to do with the video game. (Boooooo!)
Screen Daily is reporting that production on “The Fallout” will start February, 2010 in Eastern Europe. The film, being produced and sold by ContentFilm, is set in a post-apocalyptic New York.
While story details haven’t been officially revealed yet, it’s being called
“a thriller that combines elements of Assault on Precinct 13 with Lord of the Flies in a story of survival.”
Producer Darryn Welch had some pretty big words to defend the film against anyone else who would dare make a post-apocalyptic movie (i.e., pretty much everyone these days).
“With a collective of ‘End of the World’ movies hitting the theaters presently, this film will undoubtedly stand out like a ravenous Pit bull in a school playground… brace yourselves cause this film has a serious bite to it!” (is Welch calling out Roland Emmerich’s 2012 with that statement?)
Producer Ross Dinerstein also said,
“Xavier’s vision for this film is extraordinary. He brings a visual edge to this fascinating exploration of the human condition.”
CFI’s Carmichael added:
‘Xavier is a super talented, commercial filmmaker and he’s a perfect match for this terrifying material. It’s going to be a very stylish genre film and we’re extremely excited to be working with him, Ross and Darryn.’
The Fallout was written by newcomers Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean.
