Up next for J. J. Abrams (Lost, Fringe, Star Trek) is a spy drama for NBC and a half-hour medical comedy with Fox.

The drama spec script by Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV was a hot property as the ABC, CBS, and NBC networks fought over it as soon as it hit the market.  The script, written by Abrams and Josh Reims (Brothers & Sisters, Dirty Sexy Money) is for a show about two spies who happen to be husband and wife AND work together.  Abrams is no stranger to spy territory, having created Alias that aired from 2001-2006.  Looks like “Chuck” has some competition in the spy department (though both shows are both from Warner Bros. TV).

NBC won the bidding war for the Abrams/ Reims script and has ordered a pilot.  A bidding war also occurred with Abrams’ “Fringe” in before landing at Fox in 2007.

The half hour medical comedy project is written by Mike Markowitz (Becker, It’s All Relative).  Fox has given Abrams and Markowitz a presentation order.  It looks like there might be room in the market here, the only other shows in the medical comedy genre are ABC’s “Scrubs” and Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie”.
