Okay I admit it, this one is disappointing. Usually when we learn about a show’s cancellation, I’m the one saying, “yes, I know it’s frustrating, but maybe we’ve been saved from a disappointing next season,” or “don’t forget, every show gets cancelled eventually,” and always, “at least we had (fill in the number) great season(s) to watch,” and the ever popular “don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened.”
But this one does make me a little extra sad. Deadline has reported that Fox has cancelled robot buddy cop series Almost Human – yes the one from J.H. Wyman (Fringe) – after only one season and some decent ratings. The thought is that three of the pilots they’re looking at picking up are all Our Kind of Shows, and they don’t want to have too many of those. Wait. What?
I loved having Karl Urban on my screen on a somewhat-weekly basis, and I loved the team of Kennex and Dorian, and I loved the sets and the special effects and the cinematography. There was a nice little mythology buildup that will now never be resolved. Ah well, as I also always say, that just leaves more room for those of you who love to write fan fiction. Deep breath, moving on.
Farewell, Almost Human. You always gave us an entertaining 44 minutes. Good luck and all the best to all involved in the show.
Almost Human, starring Karl Urban, Michael Ealy, Lili Taylor, Michael Irby, Minka Kelly, and Mackenzie Crook aired on Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.
