AMC has announced commitments to develop more of Our Kind of series, and we couldn’t be happier. Along with the spinoff from their blockbuster The Walking Dead, they are confirming show development with Chris Carter (The X-Files), Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) and more.
Area 51 has been in development since at least July 2012 when we first reported about it, but that was before Chris Carter was attached to it as writer and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd, an EP for The Walking Dead, is also on board Area 51 as executive producer. AMC says:
Based on the NY Times best-seller “Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base” by Annie Jacobson. A contemporary conspiracy thriller revealing the true story behind the infamous Area 51, America’s most mysterious military installation.
Outer Darkness, written by Jim McDermott, with Executive Producers Stacey Sher (Pulp Fiction) and Michael Shamberg (Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction) of Double Feature Films, is “a grounded take on exorcism by exploring everyday evil in an idyllic midwestern town.” I’m fascinated to see how they’ll manage a grounded take on exorcism. Bring it!
Galyntine has a premise that will look quite familiar to fans of Revolution, but then again, Revolution was certainly not the first to imagine a future without technology. David Mackenzie has just been announced as director. AMC says:
Galyntine is a wholly-original vision of a world rooted in both fantasy/action adventure and science-fiction. Our pilot takes place in the future after a cataclysmic, technology-induced disaster has created a new society that eschews any form of technology. This catastrophic event leaves small numbers of survivors scattered around the planet, who are forced to adapt to isolation and unique challenges. “Galyntine” will explore a post-apocalyptic world in which humanity has evolved – with some strange detours. “Galyntine” is a man’s journey of discovery through a changed world and its mysterious people. The project is written by Jason Cahill (“Halt and Catch Fire,” “Fringe,” “Surface,” “Profiler”) and executive produced by Cahill and Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead,” “This Is The End,” “Oz The Great And Powerful,” “Transformers”). David Zucker and Ridley Scott will also executive produce through the Scott Free (“The Good Wife,” “Numb3rs”) first look deal with AMC.
And last but not least, The Sparrow (there’s a biblical joke in there somewhere) is also in development. Written and executive produced by Michael Perry (The River, Paranormal Activity 2) and based on Mary Doria Russell‘s acclaimed science-fiction epic, The Sparrow tells the story of a Jesuit-led mission to make first contact with an alien race.
