Disney XD Announces Premiere of MARVEL’S AVENGERS ASSEMBLE and HULK AND THE AGENTS OF SMASH

We told you back in June 2012 that Marvel Animation was working on two new series, Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and although the two series hadn’t been picked up by a network, we were expecting them to go to Disney XD. Today, Disney XD announced that they have indeed picked up both series, with one small title adjustment: Avengers Assemble is now Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, which will help keep viewers and listings from confusing it with the unfortunately-now-over Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Disney XD also announced premiere dates for the new shows: Marvel’s Avengers Assemble will give us all an advance showing on Sunday, May 26, and then officially premiere on Sunday, July 7. Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. makes its series debut on Sunday, August 11.

Presumably the Hulk series will be taking over the MAA timeslot, since the information is that both series will air Sunday mornings at 11/10c. It also looks as though at least MAA will be paired with the extremely popular Ultimate Spider-Man, which is currently on hiatus but is airing reruns on Sunday mornings at 10:30.

Here are the official posters and what we know so far about the two new series:

Marvel's Avengers Assemble official poster

“Marvel’s Avengers Assemble” reunites the most popular super hero team — Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow, along with newcomer Falcon, marking the first time in animation history this distinct team of heroes will join forces. Led by Iron Man, the heroes train and live together in their new headquarters in Avengers Tower. The planet’s most dangerous villains don’t stand a chance when the Avengers assemble – whether they are stopping Dr. Doom from conquering Asgard, Attuma driving the Atlantean Army into New York City or Dracula unleashing vampire hordes, the Avengers must work together to succeed.

The series features a really impressive voice cast: Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli in Heroes) as Iron Man (and he sounds really eerily like Robert Downey Jr in the role), Fred Tatasciore as the Hulk, Roger Craig Smith as Captain America, Travis Willingham as Thor, and Troy Baker as Hawkeye are all reprising their guest roles from Ultimate Spider-Man, while Laura Bailey (ironically, Harley Quinn in Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Superheroes Unite) as Black Widow and Bumper Robinson (Black Lightning in Batman: The Brave and the Bold) as Falcon are premiering their roles.

Okay, I get it. Just like the Avengers movie characters have been guesting in each others’ centric movies, the voice actors will be doing the same in the Marvel Animation/Disney XD series. Nice!

Hulk and the Agents of SMASH poster

In “Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.,” Hulk has long fought alone to protect a world that sees him as a monster, but his friend Rick Jones has taken it upon himself to film the world-saving exploits of Big Green and his team to change that image. In this never before seen team up of Hulk, his cousin She-Hulk, A-Bomb, Red Hulk and Skaar, Marvel’s mightiest super heroes form an eccentric family living under one roof, working together to tackle threats that are too enormous for other heroes to handle. From trying to house break their giant red pet T-Rex to stopping Ego the Living Planet from crashing into the Earth, the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. must learn to balance Hulk-sized action with everyday family-sized problems.

HEY! IT’S ELIZA DUSHKU! Yes, Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, Tru Calling, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will be voicing She-Hulk. How cool is that? She’ll be joined by Buffy castmate Seth Green (Robot Chicken) as A-Bomb.  Clancy Brown will be reprising his role from The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as Red Hulk, and Ben Diskin will be premiering as Skaar.

Make sure to check out what Joe Quesada, chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment, and Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s executive vice president and head of television, had to say about the creation of the two new series. I’m especially looking forward to Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, but there’s no way I’m going to miss Eliza Dushku as She-Hulk.

Marvel’s Avengers Assemble airs its preview on Sunday morning, May 26 at 11/10c, and then officially premieres on Sunday morning, July 7 at 11/10c on DisneyXD.

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. premieres on Sunday morning, August 11 at 11/10c on Disney XD.
