It’s been a long, long time since we told you about Megan Fox getting let go from the third Transformers movie by director Michael Bay, apparently under orders of executive producer Steven Spielberg. In fact, it was back in June, 2011. Since then the Transformers franchise, Bay, and Fox have moved on.
Yesterday, Bay published a one-sentence post on his blog that updated the status for two of those three. Entitled “TMNT: We Are Bringing Megan Fox Back Into The Family,” the post itself reads:
TMNT: we are bringing Megan Fox back into the family!
Michael Bay
Yup, that’s it. At this point we don’t know what she will be doing, in spite of all sorts of other headlines you may see to the contrary. Odds are in favor of her starring as April O’Neil, but given the other changes made to this reboot, including an entirely different origin story, who really knows?
I find it nearly as interesting that he referred to the movie as “TMNT” and not its newer name, Ninja Turtles. Sure it’s probably for expediency’s sake, but it’s still noteworthy. It should also be mentioned that Bay is a producer on Ninja Turtles, not the director, as he was on the Transformers movies.
Production Weekly reported last month that principal photography on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (as they called it) will begin in New York in April. If that stands, we can expect the casting info to start rolling out shortly, and hopefully we’ll get some clarification about Fox’s role in the movie.
And here’s one more interesting tidbit upon which we may ponder. The IMDb page for Ninja Turtles includes this as the storyline:
Aliens invade Earth and inadvertently spawn a quartet of mutated reptile warriors, the Ninja Turtles, who rise up against them to defend the world.
So, “from an alien race” just may mean something different from what might have been thought… There’s no attribution noted for that storyline, so who knows. We’ll keep you posted!
Ninja Turtles is slated to hit theaters on May 16, 2014.
