The nominations are in for the 2010 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards and it looks many more of our sci-fi shows have turned some heads, but one particular gem of a show was snubbed. ABC’s “Lost” has made its mark in television history and the nominations reflect as such. SyFy’s original programming finally made the Emmy’s radar, but the inexplicable snubbed gem is Fox’s “Fringe” whose solid second season went largely unrecognized.
ABC’s “Lost” racked up a whopping twelve nominations, a fitting nod to the show’s conclusion. CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” and HBO’s “True Blood” each come out with five nominations with “True Blood” finally getting the Outstanding Drama Series nomination.
What makes me happy to see is that quite a few shows of the science-fiction/ comics genre have been recognized this year, including ABC’s canceled “FlashForward”, Fox’s comic-book based “Human Target”, Cartoon Network’s animated “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”, ABC’s alien reboot “V”, and AMC’s remake of “The Prisoner”.
The list of Emmy noms have also recognized SyFy original programming, including their re-imagined version of “Alice”, “Stargate: Universe”, “Caprica” and “Warehouse 13”.
Fox’s “Fringe” only got one nomination for Outstanding Sound Editing. Where is the nomination for John Noble for Outstanding Supporting Actor as Dr. Walter Bishop? Where is the nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series for “Fringe” episodes “Peter” and “White Tulip”? Heck, and where is the nomination for Outstanding Title Design for “Peter”? Why this wonderful sci-fi show was snubbed this year is beyond me. Did the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences forget to DVR “Fringe” this last season? This show has reached new heights in writing, character development, and acting and I cannot think of a better show to be recognized for its work this last season!
