Will Space Invaders Slowly, Unrelentingly Drop Down into Your Local Theater?

Word has it that the game that changed the world – well, the world as we knew it back in the day – has been picked up as a potential title for a theatrical release. The panic as the alien speed increases, the manic moving-your-guy-back-and-forth, the yes-I’m-coming-to-bed-soon, the NOOOOOOO!!!!! it all comes flooding back, doesn’t it? If you’re too young to remember, trust me, this is where it all started.

Over a year ago we reported that Warner Bros was said to be attempting to acquire this title, but that has apparently not come to pass. Instead, THR is reporting that  producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers – all 3, G.I. Joe – both) and Odd Lot Entertainment’s Gigi Pritzker (Drive, Ender’s Game) have optioned what the Guiness Book of World Records has ranked as the top arcade game of all time.

But what will the story be? According to THR the two producers are looking for a writer. If they can find a way to get us in the door, those of us who have played the game know that all they need to do is show two hours of the game on the screen and its mesmerizing goodness will keep us glued to our seats. Optimally, in our bathrobes, at 2 in the morning.
