Will Lucas Nuke Another Fridge With Indiana Jones 5?

Did Lucas and Spielberg rape your childhood with Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull on the big screen, or were you able to overlook the aliens and the aforementioned “Nuked Fridge” incident? While The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was, by all accounts the most lucrative film in the franchise, it was also the most widely criticized by fandom the world over.

We have known for quite some time now that Lucas has been toiling away in the workshops at Skywalker Ranch on an idea for Indy 5, and all has been relatively quiet on that front… that was until Harrison Ford did an interview with MTV where the topic of Indiana Jones 5 was brought up.

Ford said,

“I don’t think I’ll do it in a wheelchair, George [Lucas] is working on an idea, and if it comes to a fruitful stage, all of us are very interested in making another.”

Ford is promising that the idea Lucas has for the fifth film is outrageous. When reminded of a quote he gave saying that Lucas’ idea was “crazy but great.” Ford said,

“Yeah”

Does he want to elaborate?

“No”

He conceded,

“Some of the best ideas are crazy ideas, you know?”
“Well-wrought, well-manipulated.”

Ford said of what he needs to see in an “Indy 5” script before he’s willing to don the Fedora again,

“I think it would be interesting to advance the understanding of the character, as we always have had that ambition throughout the series, I think it would be interesting to deepen the relationship between he and his son [Mutt, played by Shia LaBeouf] and play on that relationship. … It’s full of opportunity. The series is full of opportunity.”

When talk turned to Indy’s marriage to Marion Ravenwood — Ford seemed amused by the concept that anyone would find scenes of their wedded life as exciting as the series’ trademark stunts.

He deadpanned,

“Yeah, yeah, Really exciting”

Ford admitted,

“I think [scenes with a married Indy and Marion] would be nice grace notes, We’ll see what we come up with”

He added,

“Karen [Allen]’s a wonderful actress, I’ve always enjoyed working with her, I’m hoping that there’ll be a part for all of us in the next one.”
