Speaking at ShoWest, Warner Bros. president and COO Alan Horn announced the distribution plans for the studio’s ‘tentpole’ pictures, which are thought to include all superhero projects based on DC Comics characters. Horn also revealed that the studio has committed to releasing all of its big budget movies in 3D.
Horn also defended the process of up-converting movies which have not been shot natively in 3D, a technology utilized by James Cameron’s Avatar. The studio’s upcoming Clash Of The Titans remake is an example of a project that has undergone last-minute 3D processing.
Horn said,
“In our opinion, conversion to 3D doesn’t lessen [the experience]”
Horn also acknowledged that DC Comics properties would be pushed to the forefront once the Harry Potter franchise concludes – saying,
“As we ease out of Harry Potter, we hope to bring you the excitement of the DC [Comics] Library.”
Warner Bros. upcoming blockbusters include the final two Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows films, along with the Martin Campbell directed Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds on its release schedule.
