Two Beauties, Two Beasts? The CW Plans a Reboot of the ’80s TV Version

Last week we told you about ABC moving forward with a modern-day setting of the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. Now there’s news that CBS Television Studios is developing a reboot of the 80s tv series and cult classic Beauty and the Beast, for The CW.

If you’ve never seen the show, Linda Hamilton (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Chuck) played Catherine, who was an assistant DA and who shared an emotional bond with Vincent, played by Ron Perlman (HellboySons of Anarchy), coolest looking Beast on the planet, who lived in a very steampunky underground series of tunnels with other misfits of society.

The new series, according to TVLine, will include a procedural aspect, which fits in nicely if the Catherine character is again an assistant DA. There was obviously a bit of that in the original series, but presumably there would be more so here.

So, one can’t help but wonder … ABC has a new series this season, Once Upon a Time, about fairy tale people who get cursed to live in the modern world. NBC has a new series this season, Grimm, about fairy tale badness happening in the modern world, and has “a procedural aspect.” ABC is developing a new series, a modern-day setting of the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. The CW is developing a new series, a modern-day setting Beauty and the Beast, which will have “a procedural aspect”…

See what they did there? Is it just coincidence, or fashion, like those times when everyone seems to be wearing the same color? Or is there a SPY in someone’s midst? Most likely our love for suspenseful sci-fi makes us see nefarious plots everywhere. Still, we can’t wait to see what happens next. We’ll keep you posted.
