I’m going to try and think of the Pete’s Dragon remake much in the way that I think about Charlie (or Willy Wonka) and the Chocolate Factory. I don’t think I have to choose sides between Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp. I’m allowed to like them both as different movies. Different artistic takes on the same story, and I do.

According to Deadline, the Pete’s Dragon remake will be written by David Lowery (who just debuted at Sundance Film Festival with his movie Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) and his writing partner Toby Halbrooks for Disney.

It will not be a musical. Just let that sink in. Think happy thoughts. Be brave.
