The Dark Knight Rises: Joseph Gordon-Levitt May Not Be The Holiday Killer

Yesterday, we brought you the news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt had been confirmed to have joined the cast of director Christopher Nolan‘s forthcoming film, The Dark Knight Rises, marking a reunion with Gordon-Levitt and his Inception director and co-stars, Tom Hardy and Marion Cotillard.

The other part of the story was the confirmation from Variety that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be portraying Alberto Falcone, otherwise known as the The Holiday Killer, and son of crime boss Carmine Falcone (played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins).

Variety is a fairly reliable trade source, and reported that information as being from a source deep inside Nolan’s camp, so we presented it to you as being less of a rumor, and more ‘factual’ than we probably should have (my apologies). Now, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that a trusty source of their own close to Nolan is stating that the information leaked by Variety is 100% false. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is not playing Falcone.

In other news from The Dark Knight Rises

We added to our original report about Joseph Gordon-Levitt that actress Juno Temple was in negotiations to play “a street-smart Gotham girl.”, which is a fact but, now there are rumors flying all over the place that Temple’s character will actually be the female version of Robin, Carrie Kelly, who was seen in Frank Miller‘s comic series The Dark Knight Returns.

Christopher Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Goyer will also produce the film with Charles Roven and Nolan’s longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas.

The Dark Knight Rises is slated to hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.
