Supernatural Looking Good for Renewal as New Showrunner is Announced

This is actually a lot of news rolled up into one package. Sera Gamble, who began as a writer with Supernatural and was eventually promoted to co-showrunner with executive producer Robert Singer two seasons ago when creator Eric Kripke stepped down, has decided to not renew her contract with the show, choosing instead to focus on new show development.

Deadline first broke the news, going on to report that her replacement would be Jeremy Carver, who had been a co-producer with the show during the 2009-10 season, before he left to launch Being Human on Syfy with his wife Anna Fricke, with whom he has shared showrunner responsibilities until now. Don’t worry, Being Human fans, Fricke will be staying on with Being Human as sole showrunner.

Although The CW has not yet announced which current shows will be renewed for the fall season, this announcement so relatively late in the season likely indicates that Supernatural will be back for an eighth season. Excellent news for those of us who have definitely not had enough of the Winchester brothers on our TV screens!

Supernatural, starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, airs Fridays at 9/8c on The CW.
