STARGATE UNIVERSE At The End of Its Journey: SyFy Cancels Series

Say it ain’t so! SyFy will not renew its third incarnation of the Stargate franchise, Stargate Universe, for a third season. Fortunately, the final ten episodes of the second season will still air in the spring of 2011. This is the second show to bite the dust this season for SyFy as it had also canceled the Battlestar Galactica prequel series, Caprica.

Both Stargate Universe and Caprica had modest ratings and loyal fan followings, but that did not save either show from cancellation. This will mark the first time since 2002 that SyFy would not have an installment of the Stargate franchise on air.

SyFy does have a new series lined up on the horizon of the new year though. The American version of the British series, Being Human, will premiere in January. The network has greenlit a one-hour drama, Alphas, and a prequel pilot movie for a Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome.

So what do you think? Did SyFy let SGU have a fair chance out there?
