She’ll Be Baaack! Sarah Connor May Return In TERMINATOR 5

A few weeks ago, we brought you news that director Justin Lin’s (Fast Five, Better Luck Tomorrow) work load is filling up so fast that he had to pass up on Summit Entertainment’s remake of Highlander. One of the projects hot in his plate is the next installment of the Terminator franchise.

Though Terminator 5 is still early on in the developmental stages, Lin has a clear idea of where he’d like to take the series. He has loved the franchise since he was a kid and wants to do right by the franchise mythology and its fans.

In an interview with Moviehole, Lin talked about how effective relating back to the original film helps make a successful later installment. He intends to not only bring back the T-800 himself, Arnold Schwarzeneggar, in Terminator 5, but he’d also like to resurrect the bad-ass momma, Sarah Connor.

Addressing bringing back characters from the original iconic film, Lin said:

“And I think that you know if the right version, if you go back to the thematic drives of the first one especially, I think that’s a way to be able to reengage with that franchise.

I mean, Sarah Connor is such a big part of the franchise, you know. Yeah, I mean I’ve always been surprised how in part 3 she was just like… It was like one line and she was gone.

Yeah, like leukemia and… But I think the great thing about this franchise is you have… You can actually have different canons because you have the element of time travel. So, there’s a way of kind of respecting all the works but also able to create a new time line.”

There is no script yet for Terminator 5 so casting is not officially underway. How Lin will pull off a young Linda Hamilton will be something to see as we saw a CGI version of Arnie used in Terminator Salvation. It’s also reassuring that Lin may walk away from this project if the script does not meet his expectations not only as a director but as a fan of the franchise.
