Screenwriters Return for WANTED 2; Angelina Jolie and Looms Will Not

We brought you the news last year when Angelina Jolie decided not to reprise her role as Fox in the follow up to the Timur Bekmambetov directed adaptation of the Mark Millar and J.G. Jones comic book, Wanted. Shortly after her departure, all talk about Wanted 2 seemed to come to a halt.

Now, THR reports that Universal Pictures has now hired Derek Haas and Michael Brandt who, along with Chris Morgan wrote the screenplay for the original film, to pen the sequel. Back in 2009, Evan Spiliotopoulos (Snow White and the Huntsman) was brought on board to work on the script, and Haas and Brandt will now work from his material for the sequel.

You may remember back in 2009, Timur Bekmabetov revealed that plans were in place to bring Angelina Jolie‘s character, Fox back to life for the sequel. Though she bailed out of the sequel back then, presumably due to scheduling conflicts, this go-around her character will apparently stay dead.

Writer Derek Haas posted on Twitter,

To answer 2 questions I've been asked today our draft of W2 will be Fox-less and Loom-less

“To answer 2 questions I’ve been asked today: our draft of W2 will be Fox-less and Loom-less.”

No production or release dates have been announced for Wanted 2.
