Sci-Fi Series Receive Emmy Nominations (Though Not Nearly Enough)

Missing nominations, missing shows. Nevertheless, shaking our fists of fury into the air does no good, so let us celebrate those wonderful shows that did receive Emmy nominations. Congratulations to big nomination winners American Horror Story, who received 17, tied for the most of any program, and to Game of Thrones, who received 11.

As expected, our shows received a great number of nominations in the special effects categories, but also showed well in others, including Best Drama. American Horror Story‘s inclusion in the Miniseries categories has proven to be somewhat controversial,  but TV Guide quotes TV academy chairman Bruce Rosenblum’s response:

The rules of the academy are pretty clear. If a show qualifies in more than one category that producer is entitled to choose which category they want to submit. The American Horror Story example is unique. The way the show is designed, it’s a very close-ended series this year. Our academy was convinced that this belonged in the miniseries category and voted accordingly.

Not everyone agrees with the Academy’s decision, but not everyone agrees about the other nominations either. So let’s just move on, shall we?
