R.I.P. Joe Simon

Joe Simon, a legend of the comic book industry has passed away at the age of 98. Simon was one of the last living links to the Golden Age of comics, having created Captain America alongside Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics‘ predecessor Timely Comics, back in 1941.

Simon was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall Of Fame In 1999, and despite his advancing age, he was still actively participating in the convention circuit as recently as this past New York Comic Con, where he was promoting his book, Joe Simon: My Life in Comics.

DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee released the following statement on the passing of Joe Simon:

“We lost another of the Titans this week. A creative virtuoso, Joe Simon will be best known for co-creating Captain America with legendary artist Jack Kirby but his many contributions to DC Comics, both as a writer and an editor, are legion and will continue to be cherished by longtime fans, this one included. Our sympathies go out to his family, friends and many, many fans.”

On behalf of the writers and Mob of readers here at SciFiMafia, our hearts go out to Joe Simon’s family, friends and legion of fans –  Joe, much like his creations are legendary and he will certainly be missed.
