Prepare to BELIEVE With Trailer, TV Spot and Much More

As we approach the premiere of Alfonso Cuaron‘s Bad Robot series Believe on NBC, we’re starting to get TV spots and more to promote it, and give us a little more information. For many of us, “Alfonso Cuaron” or “Bad Robot” would be enough to get us to watch, let alone the fact that it comes from both of them, but still, more information is always nice.

Here’s the synopsis, followed by the new TV spot and trailer, along with the Comic-Con trailer we posted last July. Sorry, that does mean you’ll need to listen to the famous scream three times, but it’s worth it:

Levitation, telekinesis, the ability to control nature, see the future … since she was born, Bo (Johnny Sequoyah) has had gifts she could neither fully understand nor control. But now that she is 10 years old, her powers have become stronger and the threat from malevolent forces that would use her abilities to control the world has grown more dangerous. With her life and future in jeopardy, Bo’s protector, Milton Winter (Delroy Lindo, “The Chicago Code”), turns to an unlikely source to keep her safe — Tate (Jake McLaughlin, “Crash”), a wrongfully imprisoned death row inmate who’s lost his will.

Tate and Bo begin an extraordinary journey, one in which trust must be earned. On the run and traveling from city to city, every place they stop and everyone they meet will be changed forever. But they’ll have to keep going to stay one step ahead of the sinister forces after Bo’s power … because it will take a miracle to keep them safe forever.

Also starring are Jamie Chung (“Once Upon a Time”), Arian Moayed, and Kyle MacLachlan (“Portlandia,” “Desperate Housewives.”)

The series comes from executive producers J.J. Abrams (“Person of Interest,” “Revolution,” “Fringe,” “Lost,” “Super 8,” the “Mission: Impossible” and “Star Trek” movies, upcoming “Star Wars”), Alfonso Cuarón (“Gravity,” “Children of Men,” “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Y Tu Mamá También”), Bryan Burk (“Person of Interest,” “Revolution,” “Fringe,” “Lost”), Jonas Pate (“Deception,” “Prime Suspect,” “Caprica”) and Hans Tobeason (“Damages,” “Saving Grace,” “V,” “Cult.”)

Believe” is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The pilot episode is directed by Alfonso Cuarón.

And here’s a wee bit more info, via the Believe panel at the TCA’s last month. According to Deadline, J.J. Abrams stated that, although he hates having any series compared to a previous one, Believe is “wildly different from Touch,” and although “there is a spiritual side to the show,” it is also no Touched by an Angel“.

Good to know, since the marketing (what is the deal with marketing lately?) is making it look dangerously like those two shows. But here’s something else that makes it sound a little less, err, sappy. Last April we included an older, longer version of the synopsis than the one above, which read, in part:

Raised by a small group known as the “True Believers,” the orphaned girl has been safeguarded from harmful outsiders who would use her forces for personal gain. But now that she is 10, her powers have become stronger and the threat has grown more dangerous. With her life and future now in jeopardy, the “Believers” turn to the only person they see fit to be her full-time protector. That is, once they break him out of jail.

Interesting! It also said that “Bo sees people for who they truly are… and who they may become.” Also interesting. And here’s one more tidbit: Kyle MacLachlan plays Roman Skouras, who has collected a unique group of people in his top-secret organization, Orchestra. Kerry Condon plays Zoe Boyle, who works at Skouras’s side and considers herself the mother of those special people, and pines after Bo, the one that got away. This according to Deadline.

It’s still not clear what direction the show will take, particularly since it’s already on its third showrunner, so I think we’ll need to give this one several episodes before we have a clear view. I’m hoping that it will be excellent, and that we’ll all become “True Believers.”

Believe, starring Johnny SequoyahJake McLaughlinDelroy Lindo, Kerry Condon, and Kyle MacLachlan, premieres after The Voice on Monday, March 10 at 10/9c before moving on March 16 to its regular timeslot of Sundays at 9/8c on NBC.
