NO ORDINARY FAMILY Focuses On Family Relationships Instead Of Superpowers

No Ordinary Family, ABC’s newest superhero show, has been described as a live-action Incredibles as a family discovers that they each have unique superpowers after an accident from a family vacation. Michael Chiklis, who stars as Jim Powell, was amazed at what they are able to accomplish with the show:

“Thanks to technology leaps we’re making a Marvel feature every nine days, but on the other hand the show really is about the relationships between these four people. These are people you can relate to, who happen to get these powers and aren’t quite sure what to do with them.”

Kay Panabaker, plays the daughter, Daphne, who develops the ability to read minds. She urges people to think of the show as a family show:

“Ours [is] definitely more grounded in reality. The family doesn’t fight crime together, only Dad is trying to do that. The rest of us are trying to live our day-to-day lives and use the powers to make it a little bit better, a little bit sweeter.”

Here’s a quick summary of No Ordinary Family:

The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim (Michael Chiklis, “The Shield,” “Fantastic Four”) feels disconnected from his workaholic wife, Stephanie (Julie Benz, “Dexter”), and two teenage children, Daphne (Kay Panabaker, “Summerland”) and JJ (Jimmy Bennett, “Star Trek”). To encourage family bonding time, Jim decides the family will join Stephanie on her business trip to South America. When their plane crashes into the Amazon River, they barely enjoy a moment to celebrate their survival before returning to the grind of everyday life. But they will soon realize that their lives have been forever changed. Each member of the family starts to show signs of new, unique and distinct super powers. Will their newfound abilities finally bring them together or push them further apart?
