Neill Blomkamp’s ELYSIUM Goes Viral With These Comic-Con Ads

Earlier this month, we shared with you a great shot of Matt Damon, looking intense and armed, bald, and in character on the set of Neill Blomkamp’s hush-hush sci-fi flick, Elysium. At Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, Sony Pictures geared up with an advertising campaign selling a bright and shiny life “up there.”

Check out the “Elysium border checkpoint” booth with creepy border agent, courtesy of ComingSoon, at the edge of the elitist space station where the rich live in their posh flats while the rest of the population struggles on back on the ruined planet Earth. Below it are close-ups of the flyers dispensed touting the bright and shiny life in Elysium and how people can join the Elysium Citizen Initiative. Modern living at its best – This beautiful life starts in the low $250,000,000’s!

“Welcome to the Elysium Citizenship Initiative. Elysium has been offering a luxury alternative to life on Earth since the year 2097. Elysium continues to maintain strict border control in order to preserve its exceptional standard of living. However, thanks to the Elysium Citizenship Initiative, you now have the opportunity to apply for travel to Elysium.” (Try not to piss off the creepy border agent. Or heck, maybe do piss him off!)

Synposis:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard-line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium starring Sharlto Copley, Matt Damon, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner and Jodie Foster is slated to hit theaters on March 1st, 2013.
