More on Pottermore

Speculation is running wilder than a rogue hippogriff about J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore website which will reveal itself in around 5 days time. One of the loudest hypotheses is that Pottermore stands for “Potter Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Experience.” Yep. An MMORPG set in the Harry Potter world. This idea has gained a little steam thanks to Warner Bros. filing the Pottermore trademark, describing it as:

“providing multiple-user access to a global computer information network, […] on-line chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among users in the field of general interest [and] on-line facilities for real-time interaction with other computer users concerning topics of general interest.”

Does this mean that is definitely an MMORPG? No, of course not. But it’s definitely tech-related, and unless Rowling and WB plans on launching a Harry Potter-centric social networking experience (FaceScroll? FaceTome?) it’s hard not to get excited about the possibility. To be fair, WB has also filed a ton of other descriptions for Pottermore trademark, but that’s what big companies do to ensure that the trademark remains100% within their control.

What do you guys think? Is this a Harry Potter MMORPG in the vein of World of Warcraft? Let me hear your conspiracy theories in the comments below!
