Ming-Na Wen Cast in Joss Whedon’s SHIELD Pilot

We’ve been telling you about Marvel‘s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot that Joss Whedon is co-writing for ABC, along with his brother Jed Whedon and Jed’s wife Maurissa Tancheron. Casting news is now slowly coming out, and so far, so great.

Deadline broke the news that Ming-Na (SGU: Stargate Universe, Eureka), who is returning to the name Ming-Na Wen, has been cast in the pilot as ace pilot and weapons expert Agent Melinda May, reportedly a renaming of the part originally listed as Agent Althea Rice, aka The Cavalry.

She joins Clark Gregg, who reprising his role of Agent Phil Coulson, which he has played in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers, as well as voicing the role in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man (where his character is mostly undercover as Principal Coulson). No word yet how they’ll be dealing with that, you know, thing that happened to him in The Avengers.

We’ll keep you posted.
