Michael Rosenbaum’s New Comedy For SyFy: SAVED BY ZEROES

Michael Rosenbaum (“Smallville”) has created a show to tickle our geeky funny bones. “Saved By Zeroes” is a half-hour comedy from Rosenbaum, Sony, and Happy Madison Productions that “revolves around two friends, former actors on a science fiction show that has since developed a cult following, who have hit rock bottom and must work together to get their lives back on track”. The show is based upon Rosenbaum’s personal experiences and will star Rosenbaum and Jonathan Silverman (“In Case of Emergency”).

This news is the “good news” that Rosenbaum was referring to in his Twitter post the other day that had fans guessing about a return to “Smallville”.

Rosenbaum developed the show from his “Smallville” experience and attending sci-fi/comic conventions both as a fan and a guest. He compares “Saved By Zeroes” as “Galaxy Quest” meets “Eastbound & Down”. He talks about the plight of the characters in the show:

“Through drugs and drinking, [the characters played by Rosenbaum and Silverman] didn’t save money and, years later, the only thing they have left are the conventions, all they’ve got are their loyal, devoted fans. Our show is not about being in the business, it’s about being out of the business; it’s the ‘Non-tourage.’ We’re the losers you want to see back on top.”

SyFy has established that it has a good sense of humor with hour-long shows like “Warehouse 13” and “Eureka”. Andrew Plotkin, SyFy’s Senior VP, talks about how this addition fits into SyFy’s big picture:

“It helps us counterprogram and bring in younger audiences.”

Saved By Zeroes” is in script development. Adam F. Goldberg (“How To Train Your Dragon”) is executive producer/ showrunner for the project. Rosenbaum and Goldberg also have a horror film that they are currently shopping around to studios.

As SciFi Mafia has reported earlier, Rosenbaum is guest starring on Goldberg’s pilot for Fox and Sony/Happy Madison.
