Back in September we brought you a report saying that Marc Webb‘s as yet Untitled Spider-Man Reboot “will feature both of Spidey’s most prominent love interests, the red-headed Mary Jane Watson, played in the last three movies by Kirsten Dunst, and blonde Gwen Stacy, which Bryce Dallas Howard played in Spider-Man 3″.
When we brought you that quote from EW, there were still a bevy of actresses reportedly meeting with Webb and the film’s star, Andrew Garfield about a leading lady role, and Deadline first reported that Sony had offered the role of Mary Jane Watson to the lovely Emma Stone (Easy A, Zombieland). We then found out just two days later that Stone had in-fact been cast in the film, just not as the crimson haired MJ but, in the lead role of the platinum haired Gwen Stacy.
At the time everyone had assumed that meant that the role of Mary Jane was still up for grabs in the reboot but, The Wrap has reported that the Mary Jane Watson character will not appear in Webb’s Untitled Spider-Man Reboot at all, and though there was talk of bringing her into the reboot at one time, the character has never appeared in James Vanderbilt‘s screenplay.
The Untitled Spider-Man Reboot is slated to hit theaters on July 3rd, 2012.
