Sofia Coppola’s directing credits don’t trend to any thread of sci-fi; she’s known for movies like The Bling Ring, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette. Presently though, she is rumored to be attached to the a live adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen‘s The Little Mermaid.
THR is reporting that Coppola is in talks to direct the movie for Universal Studios and the production Company, Working Title, and assures us that the movie will, in fact, be kid-friendly.
This is the latest in a current trend of movies that have been previously Disney-fied, but are now being pursued by other production companies. We’ve also been covering the two dueling live-action productions of The Jungle Book happening with Warner Bros. and Disney.
