Jon Hamm Won’t Be SUPERMAN, Says Wearing Tights Is a Young Man’s Game

There have been rumors floating around this “series of tubes” we call the internet for months about exactly who will wear the cape on their back, and the symbol from the House of El on their chest in director Zack Snyder‘s (Watchmen, Sucker Punch) upcoming foray into the DC Comics film universe with Superman: Man of Steel.

Everyone from Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Matthew Goode (Burning Man) and Armie Hammer (The Social Network) have been mentioned in the Metropolis sized rumor mill as possible contenders for the role. One actor that hasn’t really been rumored, so much as he’s been championed for the role by fans across the globe is Jon Hamm (Mad Men), who will in fact be appearing in Zack Snyder‘s forthcoming film, Sucker Punch.

Sadly, for fans of Hamm and the possibility of him taking on the role of the last son of Krypton, the actor has confirmed that he will not be starring in the film.

While speaking with MTV, Hamm said that he spoke with Snyder but, it’s not happening.

Hamm said,

“No, and I have talked to Zack quite a bit. We had some looping and reshoots and stuff to do on Sucker Punch, but I think that’s a young man’s game. I think I’ve been aged out of that one by now but, it’s fine with me, there are plenty of other people available to put on tights.”

Interview: Jon Hamm

Superman (a.k.a. Superman: Man of Steel) is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
