Just last week we brought you the news that writer/director Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) had reportedly met with Marvel Studios to pitch them his take for Iron Man 3 to take over the franchise from Jon Favreau who exited the project back in December to helm the Walt Disney Pictures film, Magic Kingdom.

Now, Deadline reports that Shane Black is now in final negotiations to helm the third installment in the Iron Man franchise. It’s not clear at this time whether or not Black would write  as well as direct.

Iron Man 3 is currently slated to hit theaters in 2013.
