IRON MAN 2: Widest Release In History, Midnight Shows Selling Out, Could Set Box Office Record


Jon Favreau‘s Iron Man 2, starring Robert Downey Jr. will have the widest initial release in Hollywood history. Iron Man 2 will be unleashed in 4,380 venues, Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight holds the previous record of 4,366. Current tracking data shows Iron Man 2 opening just north of the record $158.4 million opening box office take by The Dark Knight as well.

MovieTickets.com is reporting 810 sellouts for Iron Man 2, the summer blockbuster accounts for 84 percent of all ticket sales on their site as of yesterday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Fandango.com is now reporting that 92% of their ticket sales are for Iron Man 2
