IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Recap of Warehouse 13 (Sn 1, Ep 6)

w13-burnout-deadagentWarehouse 13 “Burnout” #106 (Season 1, Episode 6)

Original airdate: August 11, 2009

Summary:

Pete and Myka head to St. Louis to investigate a suspicious gas explosion that toasted its victims to a Kentucky fried, extra crispy state.  They find a holed up room in the wreckage where a Warehouse agent had died, cuffed to the wall.  This agent had sacrificed himself to prevent this particular artifact from getting loose.  The artifact, now on the loose from the gas explosion, is a parasitic weapon used by the 11th century Turks used to make unstoppable warriors that kills by electrocution and will not let go of a host until the host is dead.  Pete pushes Myka out of the way, but becomes the artifact’s next victim.

Points to Know:

  • The whole episode draws parallels between the dead Agent Jack Seacourt and his female partner, Rebecca St. Claire with Pete and Myka.  Could their relationship head in the same romantic direction?  From this, we also see that the Warehouse recruits the same type of team dynamic- go-by-gut male and cerebral female.
  • Claudia is making a statement with her brilliant upgrades and ideas to Warehouse technology, like her upgrade to old-fangled tech to make a 3D image projector.
  • w13-burnout-peteartifactMyka can’t bring herself to do what is necessary to stop the artifact because it might kill Pete.  Ex-Agent Rebecca St. Claire has to overload the artifact’s receptors and wrap up the case that killed her former partner/ lover.  Pete survives.
  • The Warehouse keeps the entire room of Leena’s Bed and Breakfast of any Warehouse agent that dies or disappears mysteriously.
  • Rebecca advises Myka to leave the Warehouse before it uses her up like that artifact does to its victims.

Commentary:

  • Pete and Myka just aren’t geling for me. I’m sure they will use this ep as a springboard for setting the future and arc to get there for Pete and Myka, but seriously, Myka is just not vulnerable in the right way.  I don’t relate to her and her loss of her old partner.  She is whiney, and the way she calls for Pete is like a kid calling for her big brother.  She just comes off as annoying.
  • w13-burnout-gangsignWe at least know that Pete would ‘take a bullet’ and is willing to sacrifice himself to protect others from the artifact.  I hope the writers don’t make the actor playing Pete have to scream again, because he doesn’t really do it very well!
  • Myka trying to resuccitate Pete was quite possibly the worst fake-CPR I have ever seen.
  • Did Claudia just geekify a gang sign?
