IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Recap of Warehouse 13 (Sn 1, Ep 3) & Eureka (Sn 3, Ep 11)

Warehouse 13 “Magnetism” (Season 1, Episode 3)

Original airdate: July 21, 2009

Summary:

w13-mykapunchpetePete and Myka head to Unionville, Colorado to investigate people acting very uncharacteristically. What do a nun who thinks she can fly, a destructive violinist, and an elderly lady gone WWE have in common? The investigation becomes urgent when the victims of the artifact’s influence fall into comas and even Myka is exposed.  The chair that once belonged to James Braid, the father of hypnotherapy, was where each victim sat, save Myka, to seek comfort from Father Braid.  The artifact unleashed each person’s subconscious desires until it shut down their system.

(pictured to above right: Yes, that is Myka punching Pete!)

Points to Know:

  • Pete and Myka are in the swing of things of nabbing, grabbing, and tagging artifacts, but they struggle for leadership in their partnership which is resolved by the end of this ep.
  • Myka, while under the influence of the artifact, reveals that she has issues with men ever since Sam died.
  • Artie has an investigation of his own when strange electrical anomalies point to the intruder probing the electrical grid to seek the location of Warehouse 13.  At the end, the disturbing formation of the letters “knock, knock” appear in the main electrical panel.  Consider Warehouse 13 found.

Commentary:

  • Pete and Myka’s dynamic has finally set up (as if they were cake!) and I’m glad to see that solidify.  Their relationship is more of a brother-sister relationship at this point.
  • The ‘knock’ letters forming in the electrical panel gives me the MEGA creeps. Just who is this probing person? Is it even a person?

Eureka “Insane in the P-brane” (Season 3, Episode 11)

Original airdate: July 24, 2009

Summary:

eureka-pbranesCarter and the Eureka GD team go all Ghost Hunters when objects mysteriously move on their own.  Does this phenomenon have anything to do with the re-opening of Section 5?  Carter and the new head of Section 5, Tess Fontana, an old friend and colleague of Allison’s, investigate and find themselves in a ghosts-like state.  They had stumbled upon (literally) one of the Section 5 projects that studied inter-dimensional travel.  Carter and Tess are trapped in the fifth dimension! Things get worse before they get better and the Ghost Hunter scientist’s detection device does not work well with the inter-dimensional travel technology and more than just Eureka is in trouble.

(pictured above right: Carter experiences someone walking through him.)

Points to Know:

  • The reason why Section 5 was re-opened is because they’ve been studying a signal of alien origin.  This signal is getting stronger.
  • Tess’ previous work has to do with contact with aliens.
  • Lexi’s nomadic, humanitarian, baby-daddy drops in for a surprise visit.  But he’s dumbfounded by the news of the pregnancy and takes off.

Commentary:

  • This ep is full of great points of scientific humor-

Exhibit A: GD’s Ghost Hunter measures TIRDs (pronounced ‘turds’) aka

Thermal Imaging Reactive Displacement.

Exhibit B: P-branes sound funny when spoken, but they are the theoretical membrane barrier between all dimensions.  Based on string theory, certain levels of subatomic vibration can unweave P-branes and allow for inter-dimensional travel.

  • Tess is a breath of fresh air to the series. She’s spicy, funny, brilliant, and just peachy all at the same time.
  • Tess and Carter have chemistry together.  Not at first, but let’s just say that their dynamic flows in the same direction.

Best Moment:

Ghost Hunter Scientist: “My TIRD meter is going wild!”

Vincent: “Hey, so is mine!  (whispers loudly to Carter) He’s scaring people! Do something!”
