IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Recap of Eureka (Sn 3, Ep 15)

Eureka “Shower the People” (Season 3, Episode 15) #315

Original US airdate: August 21, 2009

Summary:

A baby shower is thrown for Allison but Carter finds one of the shower attendees drowned in her own car on dry land the morning after.  Is this murder for grant money?  When another one of the shower attendees dies of drowning in a bathroom they discover that these two drowned by the self-generation of synthetic water!  Who is next?

eureka-shower-kimbathMeanwhile, GD has enlisted the help of a neuro-networking expert, Dr. Manlius (aka Dr. Manly as Tess let slip), to assist with extracting the information from Kim 2.0.  Dr. Manlius specializes in using radiation to momentarily alter the cell structure of an organic computer to run an electrical impulse to copy data from the cells.  The process results in hurting Kim 2.0 and she is degrading quickly.  Henry has to let Kim 2.0 go to save the data.

It turns out that the irradiated water, a by-product from Dr. Manlius’ procedure, when interacted with human plasma effectively drowns the person from the inside out.  Tess is affected, but Carter and Dr. Manlius’ technology saves her.

Points to Know:

  • Kim 2.0 does not need to eat which makes sense because that is a human function that is unnecessary to her objective as being the primary computer of an exploratory ship.  She is a self-replicating mainframe with storage in each of her organic computer cells.
  • Henry finds it difficult to keep emotions out of his interactions with Kim 2.0. Kim 2.0 tells Henry that she is only a copy and that he has to let her go.  They both understand that she has a mission to complete and that Kim will always be a part of Henry.
  • The GD baby shower presents for Allison are amazing!  High tech baby products like a baby monitor that links mother to child to let her know what her baby is feeling, diapers that are super absorbent, and self-sanitizing bottles can’t get here fast enough!
  • eureka-shower-babymonitorThe high tech baby monitor accidentally links Carter to what Allison is feeling.  He becomes sympathy-pregnant, but is a little dismayed to discover that his connection with Allison was not real.
  • There is a bit of tension in the awkward moment between Tess, Allison, and Carter when Allision finds out that Tess and Carter went on a date to see the meteor shower.
  • Life is changing for both Allison and Carter.  Allison will soon have a baby girl and Carter now has Tess in his life.  Allison and Carter share a touching moment with each other when they realize that things are going to change in their lives.
  • Carter and Tess kiss at the end of the episode!
  • Fargo is filling in for Henry as town Coroner.

Commentary:

  • eureka-shower-cartersavingtessCarter and Tess are the cutest couple on Syfy!  They are perfect for each other!  I love how spunky Tess is and I think that Tess and Carter’s chemistry is wonderful to see.  (hint, hint, Warehouse 13 could take some notes from Eureka!) Pic is Carter saving Tess by giving her CPR.
  • My question about if taking blood from Kim results in a loss of data is sort of answered in this ep by the statement that she is a self-replicating data system.  One wonders of the redundancy protocols involved in her programming though.
  • Zoe is quickly becoming my favorite character on Eureka.  I love the way she verbally bitch-slapped Allison’s GD baby shower planners!
  • Ok, this plot was playful and I can suspend reality for the show, but cars are not fully sealed and could not hold water like that.  Neither could a bathroom since every bathroom is required by building code to have a floor drain.  :shrugs:  Just pointing that out for kicks.
  • Why does the synthetic water person have to wear a wet suit in her lab?  Does she need to swim in her synthetic water?  Curious choice by the wardrobe department- she looks like she belongs on “Deep Space Nine”.
