We get a lot of requests here at SciFi Mafia for help with independent fundraising campaigns. We’d love to post them all, but if we did, you’d never find the news and reviews amidst all the pleas for help. Every once in a while, though, we’ll get one that simply must be posted, and today we got one of those: the Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum. Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum
Museum Located near Hollywood Blvd Will Showcase Legendary Sci-Fi Memorabilia and First of its Kind Interactive Elements on Science and Space
WHAT: Today on May 8th, the announcement was made that coming in 2015, the non-profit New Starship Foundation is opening the Hollywood Science Fiction Museum, the world’s first dedicated science fiction museum that will celebrate sci-fi in film, TV, art and literature and teach all ages about space and science through science fiction. The museum with have interactive displays and environments for each film and television franchise (Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, etc.),with videos of the cast and crew discussing each exhibit, along with NASA astronauts and scientists explaining the real science behind it.
The project began in 2012 when writer/fan Huston Huddleston found two discarded Star Trek Enterprise Bridge sets created by Paramount in 1998 for touring, and decided to restore them. The restored chairs and computers have traveled to 23 different conventions around the USA and New Starship has nearly 20,000 followers on Facebook from around the world. The museum featuring these items and so much more will also be made available for tours, parties, fan shoots, and weddings. Since Huddleston found the sets, 4 weddings have taken place on the D-Bridge set with another 4 reserved for 2015!
A Kickstarter will be in effect starting May 7, 2014 to help create a prospectus, budget, concept art and other fundraising materials needed for corporate donors.

The New Starship Foundation‘s Board of Directors includes the original writers, designers and producers behind Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Tron, Firefly and Back to the Future including Ronald D. Moore, David Gerrold, Rick Sternbach, Andrew Probert and Timothy Earls. Rhetroactive, the people who helped create Universal’s Despicable Me attraction and the Grammy Museum, is helping develop the Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum. Donations have come from Paramount, Google, Bentley Systems, Entertainment Earth, with support from Star Trek actors including Brent Spiner and William Shatner, as well as numerous celebrities who wanted to have a photo in the Captain’s Chair.
Added Huddleston, “Every actor I’ve met from Doctor Who‘s Billie Piper to Star Trek‘s Karl Urban has been completely supportive of our museum and want to take their kids to the opening.” “This is something everyone seems to want, from the fans, to the actors, to producers and directors. It’s an educational nonprofit museum that will celebrate the legacy of everyone involved and inspire future Steven Spielbergs and Stephen Hawkings, it’s a win win for everybody.”
In 2015 the Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum, tentatively located in the Hollywood/Highland area, will include Enterprise bridges from the Star Trek the original series and Star Trek The Next Generation, as well as original props, costumes and sets from Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Tron, Stargate, Farscape and much more.
