nikolaj-amsterdam1Joining the Sean Bean in the cast of HBO’s TV adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones” is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (star of TV’s “New Amsterdam” and “Virtuality”).  Coster-Waldau landed the role of Jaime Lannister, a member of the king’s guard and ‘a ruthless usurper of the previous king’.  Coster-Waldau will act opposite Sean Bean whose character is of a rival house.

Also newly cast are:

  • Tamzin Merchant (Showtime’s “The Tudors”) as the exiled teenage princess, Daenerys.
  • Richard Madden (“Hope Springs”) as Stark’s eldest son, Robb.
  • Iain Glen (“Into the Storm”) as Ser Jorah Mormont, a disgraced knight.
  • Alfie Allen (“The Other Boleyn Girl”) as Theon, Stark’s young ward.
  • Sophie Turner (“Doctor Who”), as Stark’s eldest daughter, Sansa.
  • Maisie Williams as Stark’s young tomboy daughter, Arya.

They join the cast of:

Game of Thrones” is an epic story is hard to explain.  My husband describes the series as “Lord of the Rings” meets “The Godfather”… and if you killed all of the Hobbits.  It is very realistic, incredibly detailed, and dark.

HBO is still casting the large ensemble cast of “Thrones”.  The pilot shoots in Ireland in October.

I’m a fan of “New Amsterdam” AND Ron Moore’s “Virtuality” so I’m really happy to see Nikolaj Coster-Waldau working again and in such a high profile upcoming show, too!  Nevermind that I’m still bitter that “New Amsterdam” was cancelled and “Virtuality” wasn’t picked up as a series.  This gives me hope again to be able to see Coster-Waldau wow me on the small screen.

You can watch full episodes of “New Amsterdam” (gotta love a man who swims in his birthday suit) and the pilot movie for “Virtuality” here.
