FRINGE Spoiler: A Beloved Character Will Return for Season Four

After the stunning third season finale of Fox’s Fringe, you might be wondering… well, many things, I’m sure! Topmost on most Fringe fans’ query list is what will happen now that Peter has been erased from the timeline? Darn that time paradox!

Well, the producers have confirmed that Joshua Jackson will indeed return for Fringe’s fourth season in the fall. Co-producer Jeff Pinkner hoped that you were asking that very question about Peter and why he was erased from the timeline:

“The reason to come back and watch is exactly for the questions you’re asking. Everybody is asking the right questions. [They are] not questions of confusion but questions of intrigue, of being compelled. We always like it when it’s like that.”

Showrunner Joel Wyman talked about Jackson’s return:

“He’s got a job [and] he’s still under contract. We can’t yet reveal what exactly we have in store for him, but he’s definitely not going out [to audition] for other shows.”

Joshua Jackson was impressed by the creative choices the show took at the season finale and how it changes Olivia (Anna Torv):

“It’s radical. It could wipe clean the entire slate of Fringe.

[Romance] is inevitable when you have a man and a woman in leading roles on a TV show, but I do feel it was a distraction from the central story of the show. I feel the romantic portion of this show is now over so we can spend more time being Fringe again.”

Jackson added that Peter’s child with Fauxlivia/Bolivia may never even need to be addressed now:

“We bought ourselves the ability to not pay those things off without cheating the audience. It’s genius.”

How are they bringing back Peter? Will it even be Peter? Will he be a figment of Olivia’s mind like he was when she was “over there?”

To add to the weirdness, co-star John Noble hinted that “all of [the show’s] principal characters will be back next year, just maybe a little bit different.”

Heck, if it wasn’t weird, it wouldn’t be Fringe!

(And if Peter does come back as Peter, let him not be in that sweater! Joshua Jackson, where did you even find that thing?)
