EXCLUSIVE Interview with Tricia Helfer: NO ORDINARY FAMILY, MASS EFFECT 3, and Her Desire for SONS OF ANARCHY

One of the most iconic characters in the recent memory of the science-fiction genre has got to be Tricia Helfer’s cylon character, Six (pictured above), from Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica reboot. Six was Helfer’s breakout role and since then, she has gone on to guest star and star in many other television roles and as well as lending her voice to popular video games. I got the chance to sit with Tricia at the Women of Sci-Fi edition of the Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas last weekend to chat about her upcoming guest starring role in No Ordinary Family, her voice work in Mass Effect 3, what she’d like to do next, and the key to maintaining her physique.

SciFiMafia: Is there anything you can tell us about your No Ordinary Family guest role? You play Sophia Adler, a “sexy and mysterious woman” with abilities…

Tricia Helfer: Yes, well I’m not going to give away too much. It’s hard to say anything about the character without giving away too much, but she definitely puts a bit of a rift in the system. I worked a lot with Michael Chiklis which was amazing, and Romany Malco, and I had a couple of scenes with Julie Benz.

SFM: You look like you’re having so much fun on set. I keep seeing your posts with pictures from the set (see above.)

Tricia Helfer: It’s a really friendly cast and crew and I had a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see the episode.

SFM: Wonderful! We can’t either! Now, I know you might not be able to say anything about this yet, but have you been asked to reprise your role as EDI, the Normandy’s A.I. in Mass Effect 3?

Tricia Helfer: We are just talking about it right now. Again, I can’t give specific details but,…

SFM: But there’s talk?

Tricia Helfer: Yes, and most likely I will be there and I would love to be there. So, more than likely… but we’re talking about it right now.

SFM: Great! And you have guest starred on some awesome shows like Chuck, Supernatural, and Human Target, if you had the pick of the litter, what show would you choose to guest star or have a regular role in?

Tricia Helfer: There’s a show coming up that’s a new one that I’d like to get on but I won’t mention that since it’s not made yet. I’d love to get on Sons of Anarchy.

SFM: I can totally see you on that show!

Tricia Helfer: Cuz I love to play gritty… I ride a motorbike and I think the show’s fantastic. I’m sick of having to try to look pretty on set and I’d rather play a raw and rough and tumble character. And I know the bike culture because I ride.

SFM: Fantastic! And lastly, on behalf of women out there, what is the key to maintaining your physique?

Tricia Helfer: [laughs] You know, it’s everything in moderation. Enjoy your life and exercise is key. Exercise, eating healthy, getting enough sleep, drinking a lot of water… and also being happy. If you say “absolutely, no, I won’t have a glass of wine” or “absolutely no, I don’t want a cookie” then you’re just going to crave it and you’ll end up binging. So I think everything in moderation and I think the key is exercise and being happy and eating healthy.
