We brought you a story back in May about Dominic Cooper (The Escapist) reportedly being cast as the younger version of Tony Stark’s father, Howard Stark in Joe Johnston‘s upcoming Marvel Studios film, Captain America: The First Avenger.

Now, much like the Tommy Lee Jones casting confirmation from yesterday… Marvel Studios has now officially announced that Cooper has in-fact been cast as Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger. Cooper joins a cast that includes Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones, Neal McDonough, Stanley Tucci and Hugo Weaving.

John Slattery (Mad Men) played the elder Stark in Jon Favreau‘s Iron Man 2.

Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22, 2011.
