Concept Art for the Big-Screen Voltron: Defender of the Universe

We told you last year that Atlas Entertainment picked up the rights for a Voltron live-action movie. There were many rumors of the project’s demise, which producers Richard Suckle and Ted Koplar quickly dismissed, and promised that they were on the cusp of securing an A-level screenwriter for the film, and since then they have reportedly hired the screenwriting team of Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Conan, Doctor Strange).

Additionally, Atlas is developing a new Voltron animated series called Voltron Force that will air on Nicktoons in 2011.

[Correction] The Voltron Force animated series is scheduled to debut on Nicktoons in 2011, and is being produced by (WEP) World Events Productions, Ltd., Kickstart Productions and Classic Media. (Source: World Events Productions, Ltd.)

Voltron Force will follow a group of new space explorers on their chance to battle alongside the original group of heroes led by Commander Keith in the Black Lion and Allura in the Blue Lion. The new series will consist of 26 half-hour episodes of 2D and CGI animation.

Additionally, Mattel is developing a new line of Voltron toys that will appeal to adults who grew up with the ’80s series, as well as a new generation of fans that Voltron Force will create.

Now, JoBlo has gotten their hands on some concept art from the movie Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which is currently in development.  Check them out below!
