Christopher Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT To Rise In Bucharest, Romania


Just two days ago, we brought you confirmation from Warner Bros. Pictures and director Christopher Nolan that Tom Hardy‘s (Inception, Warrior) role in the forthcoming film, The Dark Knight Rises would be that of Bane. In addition to that, the news of  Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs) joining the cast as Selina Kyle.

We reported earlier that The Dark Knight Rises plans to shoot on location in Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and possibly Detroit (instead of Chicago). Now, Romania Insider reports that Romanian officials have confirmed that Nolan has also been scouting locations in Bucharest, Romania.

The Mayor of Bucharest, Sorin Oprescu said the film’s producers and city officials met to discuss technical issues and Nolan presented a list of shooting locations that included Bucharest’s historical center and Edgar Quinet Street. People close to the matter said filming might also take place in the Palace of Parliament, as some members of the production team have visited a few of its rooms. Nolan also visited the Turda salt mines in northwestern Romania in December 2010.

Romania is fast becoming a popular shooting location. Back in November we brought you set pictures and video from the Sibiu, Romania set of the Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank, Crank 2) directed Ghost Rider sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, where they also planned to shoot at Corvin Castle in Transylvania and the ruins of an industrial area in Hunedoara, Romania.

The Dark Knight Rises, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman is slated to hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.
