Check Out the Costume From Tim Burton’s Failed Superman Film: Did We Dodge A Speeding Bullet?

Last September, we brought you some test photos of Nicolas Cage in a fairly awful looking Superman suit that was presumably to be used for the late 90s Superman movie that was to be written by Kevin Smith and directed by Tim Burton. The film was to be titled Superman Reborn or Superman Lives, and supposedly revolved around the 1992 Death of Superman comic storyline in which Superman battled the villainous Doomsday until they both died in battle.

Now, thanks for visual effects artist Steve Johnson, we have a new look at what that Superman costume may have progressed to as preproduction moved forward on the film.

Johnson has posted some pictures of the construction of the suit for the proposed movie on his facebook page, and there are some very quick glimpses of the suit at the tail end of a welcome video on his youtube channel. Check out some photos and that video below, along with a video of Kevin Smith talking about the project and let us know what you think in the comments.

What do you think, did we dodge a speeding bullet or do you think they may have been on to something?
