Casting Is Coming Together for DIVERGENT

Divergent

When I saw the casting start rolling in for the movie adaptation of Veronica Roth’s Divergent, I ran out and picked up a copy of the book to see what actors like Kate Winslet and Aaron Eckhart would signing on for. After I finished the novel in the wee hours of the night, I have to say that it looks like it will be a really great movie. Before we get into the casting, have a look at this synopsis.

Set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions that each represent a different virtue, sixteen-year-olds have to decide if they want to stay in their faction or switch to another – for the rest of their lives. Beatrice Prior makes a choice that surprises everyone. Then Tris and her fellow faction-members have to live through a highly competitive initiation process to live out the choice they have made. They must undergo extreme physical and intense psychological tests, that transform them all. But Tris has a secret she’s kept hidden, because if anyone knew, it would mean a certain death. As she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, this secret might help her save the people she loves… or it might destroy her.

Divergent

Hypable is confident that Kate Winslet will be playing Jeanine of the Erudite faction, a faction of the society that values knowledge over everything else. According to Deadline, Aaron Eckhart and Ray Stevenson are both closing deals on the project, but right now there’s no word as to who they will be playing. They only have two real character options that I can figure as well. Either  could be Tris’ father or Marcus, both of the Abnegation faction, a faction that values selflessness and charity over everything else.

Woodley Elgort James Divergent

Beatrice Prior also know as Tris (our main character) is born in the Abnegation faction and will be played by Shailene Woodley (The Descendants and The Amazing Spider Man 2). Her brother Caleb will be played by Ansel Elgort and the much anticipated role of the Dauntless faction trainer, Four, has gone to Theo James (whom I loved in the first season of BBC America’s Bedlam, but you may also recognize him from Downton Abbey or Underworld: The Awakening)

Teller Courtney Kravitz Q Divergent

And now to round out the supporting cast. First, Miles Teller (Project X) will most likely be playing Peter if we’re to trust his #TeamPeter hashtag on his recent casting tweet.

Jai Courtney of A Good Day to Die Hard will be playing a Dauntless faction leader named Eric. The Dauntless Faction values courage and strength above all else. Zoe Kravitz will be playing Tris’ friend Christina from the faction that values honesty, Candor, and Maggie Q will be playing Tori the tattoo artist from Dauntless.

I have to say that this is a pretty spectacular cast and I’m really looking forward to the film.

Divergent, starring Kate Winslet, Shailene Woodley, Aaron Eckhart, Ray StevensonAnsel Elgort, Theo James, Miles Teller, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz and Maggie Q is slated to hit theaters on March 21, 2014.
