Will Batman 3 have an official announcement at Comic-Con this July? When Warner Bros. was announcing The Dark Knight back in 2006, they chose to wait until after Comic-Con to announce the film via press release which included the official title of the Batman Begins sequel, confirmation that director Christopher Nolan would be back in the directors chair and the announcement that Heath Ledger would in-fact be playing The Joker.
Now, according to Batman on Film‘s inside info, there will be an official announcement regarding Batman 3 this July. Though it could mean that things will go similarly to the chain of events for The Dark Knight announcement, various DC Entertainment honchos like Geoff Johns and Diane Nelson have been teasing for months that the future slate of DC Superhero projects would be revealed soon, so there could be a barrage of announcements regarding not only Batman 3 but, the Superman reboot, perhaps film plans for The Flash and a Green Lantern teaser trailer is fairly inevitable.
While the majority of this is pure speculation, I think DC/Warner Bros. would be wise to overrun Comic-Con with announcements in an attempt to steal the thunder from Marvel Studios‘ upcoming slate of films.

Will Batman 3 go 3D? Cinematical caught up with longtime Nolan cinematographer, Wally Pfister just before he received the Star Award for his career in cinematography from the Dallas Film Society. He didn’t pull any punches about his feelings on 3D and IMAX.
“I did it [IMAX] for one shot of The Dark Knight because he said, you have to say you did it, and literally I had this strapped to my shoulder and I was carrying it. But I think Chris is game for doing something interesting like that, Lord knows that the 3-D fad might pass by the time that summer comes around.”
Pfister, like Nolan is not a fan of shooting digital either.
“But I know one thing about the film that Chris is adamant about is that he wants to shoot on film,” Pfister said. “He doesn’t want to shoot on video, and I’m the same way.”
There were some additional comments from Pfister over at AICN:
Pfister, just like Nolan, does not like digital cameras: “The image quality of film” exceeds that of the high end digital cameras like “the Genesis camera and the Red camera.” He said that he and “Chris [Nolan] are ‘devotees’ of film.”
Because of his and Nolan’s feelings toward Digital Cinema, Pfister does not want to shoot in 3D. He actually had some pretty harsh things to say about the format, he says that “it’s great for like amusement park rides like the ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’ ride at Disneyland.” He said that 3D is not realistic and “it’s a distraction. Can you imagine Memento in 3D? With Joey Pantoliano’s glasses sticking out ‘a few feet’ with his hair all the way back there?”
Pfister said that he met with Brad Bird a few days ago and that Bird told him that his teenage sons thought that the IMAX used in The Dark Knight was more realistic than the 3D in these new movies.
He loves the clarity and latitude that shooting in 65 mm and in IMAX gives him. He can “underexpose by as many as 5 F-stops and overexpose by two. The digital cameras can’t do that.”
Although he loves the image and large frame provided by IMAX in The Dark Knight, he would much “prefer [everything] to be in 2.35:1”
