ABC Puts Steampunk Pilot GASLIGHT into Development

A STEAMPUNK SERIES! Sure we’ve seen flashes of steampunk aesthetic used in shows from Warehouse 13 to the 1980s Beauty and the Beast all the way back to the 1960s The Wild Wild West, but this proposed show embraces the elements to the point of actually using it in the name of the series, Gaslight.

Admittedly, the premise isn’t what has us so excited; according to Deadline, it will be “a lavish soap opera of passion, greed and hope” at which point we nearly moved on without noting the crucial element: “SET IN A MODERN-DAY STEAMPUNK WORLD” (our emphasis, of course) “in which three rival families battle for power and redemption in a re-imagined San Francisco.” We are suddenly fans of lavish soap operas of passion, greed, and hope.

The pilot is set to be written by Michael Cooney (Identity) who will executive produce along with Ian Sander and Kim Moses and will be produced by ABC Studios.

We’ll keep you posted.
